和名の由来  朝廷に献じたものを苞苴（オオムベ）と呼び、略されてムベとなる
花の特徴   雌雄同株　　雄花と雌花は似ていて区別しづらい。雌花には3つの雌ずい、雄花には1本の雄ずいがある
開花時期   ４−５月
分布　生育地  本州　四国　九州　　　　　丘陵地
